King, Miller to DL; Lopez, Schemmel up

The San Diego Padres are sending two Fort Wayne Wizards prospects to the disabled list. Right-hander Drew Miller and second baseman Tom King are headed to the disabled list and right-hander Wilton Lopez and second baseman Jonathan Schemmel will take their place on the active roster.

Drew Miller has a tender shoulder and is expected to miss several starts. The right-hander has a 1-2 record with a 3.66 ERA over four starts, striking out 21 and walking eight in 19.2 innings. He tossed seven innings of no-hit ball on April 24, earning his lone win of the year.

Stephen Faris will take over Miller's spot in the rotation.

Tom King has a shoulder injury and will also be sidelined. King is hitting .311 with 10 doubles and 10 runs scored over 19 games. He has eight multi-hit games and has driven in six.

Jonathan Schemmel is a career .291 hitter that was in the New York Mets chain last year. He split the year between Brooklyn and Hagerstown and has collected 18 doubles, four triples and 56 runs scored in 121 minor league games. He is a patient hitter who has drawn more walks, 60, than he has struck out, 55.

Wilton Lopez has a career 1-1 mark with a 3.65 ERA in nine games over four leagues in the Yankees farm system. He has not pitched professionally since 2004.
