Beavers vs. Sky Sox Notable Plays By Inning

Portland, OR-- 1st inning: Jared Wells yields back-to-back singles to lead off the game, but strikes out the next two hitters he faces.

With runners on first and second base, Colorado Springs first baseman Joe Koshansky singles to RF, but Vince Sinisi fires home to nail the runner as Luke Carlin applied the tag to keep Colorado Springs off the scoreboard.

Brett Dowdy's first inning hit was a liner off pitcher Eric Dubose's shin. The LHP remained in the game.

2nd inning: The Beavers put two two-out runs on the board to get the scoring ignited. Adam Shabala singles to left-center field to score Luke Carlin from second base. Luke Carlin, who walked to reach base and moved to second base after a balk, just squeezes past the tag of catcher Alvin Colina at home. The throw to the plate allows Shabala the move to second base. With two outs, Jared Wells helps his cause by singling up the middle. This drives in Adam Shabala.

3rd inning: Paul McAnulty singles and Huffman homers to the boardwald on SW 18th Avenue to bring in two more runs. Portland leads 4-0.

4th inning: No doubter homer by Vince Sinisi leads off the inning. It is Sinisi's third home run of the year. A beautiful sacrifice bunt by Jared Wells (his third of the season) gets Shabala to second base. Shabala reaches 3B on a WP. Beavers can not capitalize on the opportunity.

5th inning: Wells got into trouble when he hit a batter to load the bases, but fought out of it thanks to sharp defense by third baseman Royce Huffman.

Luke Carlin's stand up double scores exemplifies his exceptional speed for a catcher. Adam Shabala dribbles a hit past the shortstop. Huffman scored. Huffman's two RBI doubles his RBI total for the year.

6th inning: Jared Wells continues on with sic consecutive shutout innings when he strikes out Seth Smith looking. Beavers go in order as Craig Stansberry and Brett Dowdy strike out. Beavs still leading by seven runs after six innings.

7th inning: Aaron Rakers, who made one appearance for the San Diego Padres this year, comes in to relieve Jared Wells. Wells hopes relief can sustain first win for 2007. Rakers, exhibits an array of pitches including a decent splitter, an effective fastball, and some off-speed pitches works his way through the top of the inning with relative ease.

Luke Carlin continues solid performance with a second to McCray Alley in right-center field. It looks like Beaver onslaught shall continue. Luke Carlin scores his third run on a ripped sharply pulled single to right field by Vince Sinisi. It is Sinisi's 14th RBI of season as he increases his success against LHPs. (8-0 Beavers). Adam Shabala walks for the second time. Pitcher Aaron Rakers makes his first career plate appearance at the professional level and strikes out swinging with runners on first and second base.

8th inning: Luke Carlin shows agility on defensive with running basket catch on third base side. Aaron Rakers works his second scoreless inning.

9th inning: Beavers defense behind RHP Steve Watkins closed out the game and maintained the Beavers' solid defensive exhibition. It was Portland pitchers' fourth shut out in their last six games.

The win put Portland just 0.5 games out of first place in the league.
