Padres to turn Matt Bush into a pitcher

The San Diego Padres have decided to turn Matt Bush into a pitcher after he spent the majority of the past four years in the minors as a shortstop.

Matt Bush made it to High-A after a strong spring but could not maintain that pace, hitting .204 with 13 errors for the Lake Elsinore Storm in 29 games.

The former Mission Bay High School alumni went 9-1 with a 0.42 ERA, stiking out 91 in 66 innings as a prep.

Bush hit .221 with 20 doubles, two homers, and 53 RBIs over 177 games coming into this season. He has also been no stranger to injury, fighting through nagging hamstring injuries in recent years.

Bush did show more patience at the plate this season, walking 16 times to 21 strikeouts but had just six hits in his last 33 at bats.
