Fuson excited to add Canham to the system

Eugene, OR- Vice president of scouting and player development Grady Fuson was excited about the signing of former Oregon State catcher Mitch Canham on Tuesday night.

For right now, Fuson wants Mitch Canham to enjoy his incredible accomplishment. Fuson reiterated how important it was for Canham to "chill down" and just relish the success.

"There is no rush. The plan is to bring Canham to Eugene sometime next week (likely July 5th)," Fuson said.

When asked about the potential logjam of catchers with Luis Martinez, Justin Pickett, and now Canham, Fuson did not see it as a major problem. He said that catcher is a "position of need within the organization. Pickett just began to catch again and that he can play first base," as he did in Tuesday night's win over the Boise Hawks.

Fuson had nothing but glowing words for the catcher of Oregon State's back-to-back national championship team. Fuson said he cannot wait to have a presence like Canham in the organization, and that he is a great leader.

He also mentioned he has known Oregon State's manager Pat Casey for many years and that Casey has told him, ‘he cannot imagine what his team would have been like without Canham.'

While Canham was lauded for his leadership, Fuson was quick to point out "he is a heck of a player too. Canham has a solid bat and handles the game behind the plate well."
