Fort Wayne, IN – Wizards third baseman Rayner Contreras and right-hander Andy Underwood were named the Midwest League's Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively for the week of July 2 through July 8.

Rayner Contreras raised his average from .284 to .297 after going 11-for-25 with a pair of doubles and two home runs. He also drove in eight runs, scored three runs and walked three times. His on-base percentage went from .332 to .347 and his slugging percentage jumped from .431 to .448.

Last season, outfielders Will Venable and Mike Sansoe, along with catcher Nick Hundley, were named Midwest League Player of the Week for the Wizards.

Andy Underwood collected a pair of wins for the Wizards, going 2-0 in 15 innings of work. He allowed 10 hits and only two earned runs in his two starts, walking two and striking out six. His week was topped off on Sunday in the Wizards 5-1 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts. Underwood went seven innings and allowed four hits, one run, one walk and striking out four.

The last Wizards pitchers to earn Pitcher of the Week honors were Brent Carter and Mike Ekstrom, both during the 2005 season.
