Padres trade Ring for Ledezma, Startup

San Diego, CA – As first reported by Bill Shanks of the network, the San Diego Padres has acquired left-handed pitchers Wilfredo Ledezma and Will Startup from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for left-hander Royce Ring.

Wil Ledezma is scheduled to report to the Padres on Wednesday.

In 35 games combined this season with the Atlanta Braves and Detroit Tigers, Ledezma, 26, is 3-3 with a 5.40 ERA (27 ER/45.0 IP), including a 3-1 mark with a 4.79 ERA (19 ER/35.2 IP) in Detroit and an 0-2 record with a 7.71 ERA (8 ER/9.1 IP) with Atlanta. In 118 Major League games (33 starts) over parts of five seasons with the Tigers (2003-07) and Braves (2007), he is 15-20 with 5.23 ERA (170 ER/292.1 IP) with 130 walks and 178 strikeouts.

Will Startup, 22, is 3-2 with a save and a 2.23 ERA (12 ER/48.1 IP) in 42 appearances at Triple-A Richmond in 2007. He has walked 17 and fanned 47.

Royce Ring, 26, is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA (6 ER/15.0 IP) with 14 walks and 17 strikeouts in 15 appearances with the Padres this season. Over parts of three Major League seasons in 41 games, he is 1-2 with a 3.52 ERA (15 ER/38.1 IP) with 27 walks and 33 strikeouts with the Mets (2005-2006) and Padres (2007).
