Padres purchase contract of Luke Carlin has learned that the San Diego Padres have purchased the contract of catcher Luke Carlin on Thursday, effectively adding him to the 40-man roster.

Through 11 games with the Portland Beavers, Luke Carlin was hitting .387 with three homers and 11 RBIs while also sporting a .574 on-base percentage.

Carlin has drawn a walk in 10 of the 11 games while netting a hit in nine of the 11. He leaves Portland with a four-game RBI streak and RBIs in six of his last seven.

As for playing time with the Padres, Carlin could be the catcher on duty for future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux. Maddux has given up double-digit hit totals in two of his last four starts and Carlin's addition to San Diego could be simply to catch Maddux as he looks for win number 350.

Carlin will replace Colt Morton on the 25-man roster. It is assumed that Morton will be sent to Double-A, but no official word has been announced. The official move is expected to take place after Thursday's game.
