Extended Padres play to tie

PEORIA, AZ- The San Diego Padres extended spring training club played to a 3-3 tie against the Cubs. The starting lineup was Ray Stokes, Keisy Marte, Ryan Hill, Emmanuel Quiles, Brian Joynt, Brian Lauderdale, Jose Mayi, Edgra Garzon, and Kevin Acosta.

Rey Garramone was the starting pitcher and gave up a walk and a HR in the first inning before settling down in the second inning, when he retired to side in order. His final line was 2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 0 K.

Jose DePaula came into the game as a reliever in the 3rd inning and gave up a single to the second batter he faced but he was quickly erased on a 4-3 double play that was started by Acosta. He also worked the 4th inning and only gave up an infield single on a slow ground ball to second base. His final line was 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.

Pascual Juan pitched the 5th inning and struck out the fist batter he faced before giving up a double into the LF gap. He got out of the inning on a great diving stop by Acosta, who started a rare 4-3-2 double play. His final line was 1 IP, 1 H, 0R , 0BB, 1 K.

Cooper Brannan pitched an very effective 6th inning. He retired the first batter on routine groudout to shortstop before striking out the second batter. The third hitter looked overmatched on a high fastball that was lofted out to LF. His final line was 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.

Stiven Osuna came out strong in the 7th inning by striking out the first batter he faced but quickly got into trouble by walking the second batter. He had to battle the third hitter but eventually retired him on a groundball to short. His final line was 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.

Alexis Lara made quick work of the 8th inning. He did allow a single to the second batter he faced but retired the next two batters on infield po outs. His line was 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.

Colt Hynes came in to close things out in the 9th inning but things started to unravel after a leadoff walk. The runner stole second base before advancing to third on a wild pitch and later came around to score on an RBI single. His final line for the day was 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K.

Ray Stokes batted leadoff and went 1-for-4 with a walk. Keisy Marte batted second and went 0-for-5 with three K's and two fly outs.

Ryan Hill went 0-for-3 and flied out in all three at-bats before being replaced by Robert Dubarry (0-for-2, 2 K's) in the 7th inning.

Emmanuel Quiles batted in the cleanup spot and went 0-for-2 before being replaced by Clint Naylor (0-for-1, 1 K, 1 BB) in the 6th inning.

Brian Joynt played in left field and went 1-for-3 on live drive to LF and also reached on a throwing error in the 8th inning. He struck out looking in the 4th inning.

Brian Lauderdale started the game as the DH and went 2-for-2 on two line drive singles into the OF. He was replaced in the 7th inning by Tony Gonzalez, who went 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Jose Mayi played first base and went 0-for-2 with two walks. Edgar Garzon played third base and went 0-for-3 (1 K) with an RBI sacrifice fly in the 7th inning.

Kevin Acosta made a couple very good plays at second base and also chipped in with an RBI single to right field and a walk. He was 1-for-3 on the day.
