Portland (21-22) won 4-1 over Tucson (Diamondbacks)

Cesar Ramos moved to 5-3 on the year with an impressive outing on Tuesday. The left-hander allowed one run on three hits and two walks over six innings, striking out two. He tossed 88 pitches, including 54 strikes. Ramos has earned a decision in all but one of his nine starts and has kept the opposition to three hits or less three times, although one of those outings lasted just 2.2 innings in a loss. Ramos has walked at least two in six starts.

Chip Ambres went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. The outfielder has notched a hit in six straight and has an extra base hit in 11 of his last 16 contests. It was the first time he has recorded multiple extra base hits in a game. Ambres is hitting .316 over his last 21 games with 13 extra base hits. He has an RBI in four of his last five contests, plating six over that span.

Peter Ciofrone came into the contest with three RBIs – all coming on solo homers. He added his first RBI without the benefit of a dinger on Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with a double. He did, however, ground into his second double play of the year. Ciofrone has reached base in eight straight with hits in seven of those. He is 10-for-27 over the last eight games after beginning his Portland season 0-for-10. He does not have a hit with runners in scoring position through 12 Triple-A games.

They are eighth in the 10-team circuit with a .257 team batting average and ninth with a 5.00 ERA. Fort Wayne (21-24) won 6-5 over Great Lakes (Dodgers)

Jeremy Hefner worked five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four. The right-hander surrendered two solo homers in a no-decision, doubling his homer total for the year. His three walks were also a season-high. It was the fourth time in 11 appearances, including seven starts, that Hefner has surrendered three runs or more without going more than five innings.

Luis Martinez went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored out of the nine-hole. Martinez has reached base six times over his last three games and the multi-hit game was his fifth of the year but first over his last 12 games. Martinez is hitting .289 during day games and .182 at night. The backstop also threw out the only runner attempting to steal on him. Martinez has snagged 13-of-42 base runners attempting thievery, good for 31 percent.

Lance Zawadzki reached base three times via two hits, including a double, and a walk. The infielder, playing second base on Tuesday, also swiped his seventh base of the season. After going 1-for-21 over a six-game stretch, Zawadzki has five hits in his last 12 at-bats. He has also drawn a walk in four straight and six of his last seven. Zawadzki has not struck out in three straight games – his longest stretch of the year without fanning. He has not been thrown out this season in his stolen base attempts.
