Decker named Arizona Rookie League MVP

The San Diego Padres have swept the lower levels of the minors with the announcement of Jaff Decker as MVP of the Arizona Rookie League. Decker joins Dan Robertson, winner of the Northwest League MVP, in winning honors.

Jaff Decker was named the league's Most Valuable Player after batting .357 with five homers, a league-leading 50 runs scored and 34 RBIs, as named by Arizona Rookie League president Bob Richmond. He has 18 multi-hit games this year and has been on base 110 times in 47 contests.

Decker, the 42nd overall pick in June by the San Diego Padres, sported a 29-game on-base streak from July 1 through August 11 and holds an incredible .531 on-base percentage for the season. He is also fifth in the league with a .552 slugging percentage, as he has reached base in all but three of his 47 games.

Also, catcher Robert Lara and right-handed pitcher Stiven Osuna were named to the All-Star team along with Decker.

Lara is third in the league with a .342 average and second behind Decker with a .487 on-base percentage. He has contributed 16 extra base hits and 34 RBIs across 48 games while drawing 36 walks compared to 29 strikeouts.

Osuna is tied for the league lead with seven wins, second in innings pitched at 63.2 and third in ERA with a 2.26 mark. The right-hander has allowed two runs or less in 10 straight starts and has walked just eight compared to 54 strikeouts.
