Padres Draft Interview: Matt Vern

Matt Vern was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 13th-round of the 2009 MLB Draft, 384th overall. MadFriars.com caught up with the outfielder to discuss his power, his agility and his approach at the plate, among other topics.

Matt Vern had a career year as a senior at TCU, leading the team with 17 home runs, 54 runs driven in, 16 stolen bases and a .360 batting average. He was named first-team all-Mountain West as a senior.

For his career, Vern was a .309 hitter in 199 games played with 29 home runs, 143 RBI and 50 doubles, a total that ranks third all-time in school history.

Hailing from the same school that produced Chad Huffman, Vern is hoping to follow in the legacy and produce as much as his fellow alumnus.
