Robert Lara hit a solo homer to open up the bottom of the 10th, sending the TinCaps to the championship round. Fort Wayne lost the first game and took the last two of the series. They will face Burlington in the final round. Lara had gone 0-for-15 in the playoffs before hitting the game-winner.
Simon Castro allowed two hits across the first five scoreless frames, nursing a one-run lead. A single opened the sixth before Castro recorded a quick two outs. A double to deep center followed to knot the game at 1-1. After a walk, Nick Greenwood was called upon to strand a pair of inherited runners – something he accomplished with a ground out.
Castro's night ended with the one run in on four hits and walk while striking out across 5.2 innings.
The TinCaps got on the board first in the second. Vince Belnome singled to open the frame and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a walk and second wild pitch put a pair of runners in scoring position, Justin Baum recorded a sacrifice fly – netting his seventh RBI of the series.
Belnome's single was the lone hit that Fort Wayne would muster across the first six innings.
Great Lakes took the lead on a solo homer in the seventh off Greenwood. The TinCaps struck back in the bottom half. After Cole Figueroa was hit by a pitch, Allan Dykstra singled. A throwing error than brought the tying run home.
The teams again traded runs in the eighth. Two singles and a sacrifice fly brought home the Loons run. Jaff Decker was hit by a pitch with two outs and Vince Belnome hit his fourth double of the playoffs to make the score 3-3. He is 10-for-26 through the playoffs with five extra base hits.
The game was eventually sent into extra innings, settled in the 10th on the Lara homer. Brad Brach earned the win with two scoreless innings, yielding one hit and struck out two.
