Prospect Video: Jon Berger, Justin Baum

San Diego Padres prospects Jon Berger and Justin Baum went in different directions in 2009. Berger was elevated from the Arizona Rookie League all the way to Lake Elsinore. Baum, meanwhile, was sent down from Lake Elsinore to Fort Wayne.

Jon Berger, a 33rd-round draft pick this season, played under Tony Gwynn at San Diego State. A polished right-hander, he breezed through tours in Arizona and Eugene before getting the call to Lake Elsinore where he was hit hard. He doesn't throw particularly hard but spots his pitches well and has command of his off-speed pitches.

Justin Baum, also a local product, struggled across two stops this season and with the strong play at third base within the system, the former seventh-round pick stands at a crossroads.
