"Four quality pitches – fastball, slider, changeup, curveball," Eugene pitching coach Bronswell Patrick said. "He has it all. He has four pitches he can throw for strikes."
Miles Mikolas went 1-8 with a 5.94 ERA across 15 games, including 11 starts, with Eugene. The opposition hit .332 off him along the way. It seemed he was tipping pitches through the year. At the Padres instructional league, however, Mikolas was named the Most Improved Pitcher.
"Miles would tell you he was disappointed in his pro debut, as were we," minor league field coordinator Tom Gamboa said. "From my trips up there – he couldn't have pitched worse.
"In the Instructional League, it was like a different guy showed up."
