Missions close to within one of first

San Antonio, TX: On a cool and windy day in San Antonio, The Missions took on the Rough Riders for the final game of their home stand. The Missions entered play one game back from .500 and are tied with Frisco in the Texas League South (21-22). Right-hander Erik Davis made his first home start for the Missions at Nelson Wolff Stadium against Frisco's left-hander Richard Bleier.

The Missions struck first as they have done every game this series. With men on second and third, Sawyer Carroll hit a high fly ball straight into the center field gap, which drove in the first run of the game. After a stretch on the disabled list, Michael Collins returned to the lineup as the DH and ripped a line drive into left field to score Luis Martinez. Andy Parrino continued the Missions hitting when he popped a fastball just inside the foul line, which drove in the third run of the inning and extended the Missions early lead to 3-0.

The Rough Riders produced offense in the fourth. With one man on, James Tomlin slammed a curveball in the yard over the leftfield fence for a two-run home run, closing the gap to 3-2 with Tomlin's third home run of the season.

The Missions continued to hit the ball off Bleier in the bottom of the fourth. With two men on, Lance Zawadzki hit a shallow line drive to right field which cleared the bases and gave the Missions a 5-2 lead. Then after a quick base hit by Logan Forsythe, Matt Clark sent a fastball straight down the right field line which scored two more runs. That finished the night for Richard Bleier with 12 hits and seven runs in four innings. Tyler Tufts came in to relieve Bleier, but the Missions bats continued to hit and they quickly loaded the bases. Carroll popped out to right for a sacrifice fly and scored Clark which made the score 8-2 at the end of the fourth.

The Missions kept pressure on the Frisco in the seventh. Collins singles on a groundball to center, which drove in Martinez for another run. After that, Blake Tekotte hit a fly ball to right centerfield that rolled all the way to the fence which gave Collins enough time to round the bases and extended the lead to 10-2.

"I give all the credit to our guys," said Missions hitting coach Max Venable. "Hitting is contagious on this team. We're putting the work in on and off the field. It's hard to beat a team that was playing as good as we were tonight."

After some lazy play and a couple errors by the Missions, The Rough Riders loaded the bases and Tomlin lined to left to score one run with one out. Then Emerson Frostad hit a hard ground ball to rightfield and scored another run for the Riders. The Missions were able to get out of the inning with a quick 6-4-3 double play, but not after giving up two runs which made the score 10-4. The Missions closed out the rest of the game and swept the Rough Riders for the first time this season and pulled them within one game of first place in the South.
