Padres Minor League Notebook: 8-20-10

Cory Luebke fires zeroes over six. Tyler Lumsden hits four batters and takes the loss. Jeremy McBryde gives up one. Edinson Rincon and Jonathan Galvez help Fort Wayne to a win. Mauricio Tabachnik is hit hard in a loss. Jose Dore and Joe Agreste lead the AZL Padres.

Portland (48-79) lost 3-1 to Round Rock (Astros)

Cory Luebke dropped six scoreless innings on Round Rock, yielding three hits and three walks while fanning one. The left-hander notched 12 ground ball outs, including a pair of double play grounders. He also added a sacrifice bunt in a scoreless game that netted him a no-decision. It is the fourth time in eight PCL starts that Luebke has given up two runs or less. He has allowed three hits or less three times.

Luis Perdomo surrendered three runs on two hits, an error and a walk in the top half of the ninth to break a scoreless tie. He had worked a scoreless eighth and the error was his on a sacrifice bunt. The right-hander has lost three straight decisions. He has given up seven runs over his last three outings, spanning 5.1 innings. Perdomo has allowed runs in 17 of his 52 appearances.

San Antonio (24-29, 59-64) lost 10-7 to Arkansas (Angels)

Tyler Lumsden allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits, three going for extra-bases, and a pair of walks across five innings – plunking four batters while fanning three. He also committed his fourth error but was aided by three double play grounders. Lumsden is 1-4 with the Missions, allowing five runs or more in four of his last five outings. He has hit six batters in six starts while walking 17.

Andy Parrino clubbed a pair of doubles out of the nine-hole in the lineup, his 23rd and 24th, and drove in three runs, including one with two outs. He did, however, ground into a double play. The versatile player is hitting .313 with runners on base, notching 23 of his 36 extra-base hits with someone on. It is the ninth time that Parrino has collected multiple RBI in a game.

Lake Elsinore (29-24, 75-48) won 3-1 over Inland Empire (Dodgers)

Jeremy McBryde was good for one run over six innings, giving up three hits and three walks while striking out a season high seven. The right-hander has allowed two runs or less in four of his last five outings. McBryde has walked eight over his last three starts. It is the second time he has allowed three hits or fewer in the California League while going at least five.

Zach Herr picked up his eighth hold of the year, striking out the side in a perfect seventh to maintain a 3-1 lead. It is the first time all year he has fanned the side. Herr has allowed runs in 14 of his 49 appearances with the Storm while stranding 11 of the 13 runners he has inherited. Herr has held the leadoff hitter of the inning to a .148 average and a .224 on-base percentage across the 67 innings he has started.

Fort Wayne (33-20, 69-54) won 7-3 over West Michigan (Tigers)

Jonathan Galvez reached base three times in four at-bats, collecting three singles. He scored twice and drove in his 45th run while also adding his 16th and 17th stolen bases of the year in 23 attempts. Galvez did, however, ground into a double play. Galvez has notched five extra-base hits across his last eight games. He is hitting .333 over his last 16 games with a .397 on-base percentage. Galvez has an RBI in three straight.

Edinson Rincon reached double digit in homers with his 10th of the season, a two-run homer in the third. He also added a single and two runs scored while pushing his RBI total to 60. Rincon did, however, ground into a rally killer as well. The third baseman has a modest four-game hitting streak, collecting four extra-base hits and four runs scored. He has notched 41 extra-base hits on the year.

Eugene (11-11, 26-34) lost 7-4 to Spokane (Indians)

Mauricio Tabachnik allowed six runs, five earned, on 10 hits across 4.1 innings. It was the first time in his career that he has yielded double-digit hits. The right-hander also tossed two wild pitched and was called for a balk. Three of the hits went for extra bases, including a homer. Tabachnik had given up four earned runs over his previous 19.2 innings. He has given up five runs twice on the season – the last coming in his other loss.

Oscar Garcia was in on three of the Emeralds runs. He went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI while also scoring once. The outfielder also added his second stolen base of the year in five attempts. Garcia, who may lead the team in hard contacts, has reached base nine times across his last four games, scoring five times and driving in four. He is hitting .364 with runners in scoring position.

AZL Padres (18-29) won 12-7 over AZL Rangers

Joe Agreste led the offensive barrage by going 3-for-4 with a walk. He notched his sixth triple of the year across three leagues and pushed his RBI total to 20 in Arizona with five on Friday. The first baseman has five multi-RBI games over his last nine, driving in 15 over that span after netting five in his first 18. Agreste has collected 14 extra-base hits in 27 overall.

Jose Dore had three hits out of the three-hole in the lineup, driving in his first two runs as a professional and scoring twice. He is 6-for-12 with five runs scored since going hitless in his first game. An eighth round pick in this year's draft, Dore, out of First Academy, tied a high school record in Florida with 16 homers. After learning he was drafted by the Padres, Dore went to the batting cage to celebrate.
