Minor Ramblings: Lakewood Starts 2-0

Playing in cold, damp weather, Scranton, Reading and Lakewood all picked up wins Friday in minor league action. Reading and Lakewood are off to 2-0 starts, while the Clearwater Phillies are still looking for their first win of the season.

Scranton Wilkes-Barre 2, Ottawa 1

The Red Barons picked up just four hits, with Jason Knupfer, Dave Hollins, JP Roberge and Travis Chapman all collecting a hit. On the mound, Ken Pumphrey (1-0) pitched 6 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, no walks and striking out 6. Julio Santana pitched the ninth to record his first save of the season.

Reading 5, Altoona 0

Buzz Hannahan and Jim Sitzman each had two hits, including a triple for Hannahan. Seung Lee (1-0) pitched 6 innings and allowed just 1 hit while striking out 4. Yoel Hernandez pitched 2 shutout innings and Frank Brooks threw 1 shutout inning.

Dunedin 3, Clearwater 2

Lakewood 5, Lexington1

Bryan Hansen had 2 hits and Mark McRoberts hit his first homerun of the season for Lakewood. Zach Segovia (1-0) threw 5 innings and allowed just 1 earned run. Robby Read pitched 3 shutout innings, striking out 6 and Zach Minor pitched a perfect ninth inning.
