Clearwater Offense Carries Phils To Win Over Tampa

With all of the other Phillies minor league teams snowed out of their games, the Clearwater Phillies showed some offensive heat picking up an 11-5 win over the Tampa Yankees in Florida State League action Monday night. Keith Bucktrot had a rough outing, but reliever Layne Dawson came to the rescue with a solid save.

Danny Gonzalez and Juan Camilo each drove in three runs with two hits Monday night in Clearwater's win over Tampa. Vince Vukovich and Trent Pratt both had two hits in the game for Clearwater as Vukovich upped his average to .313 on the season.

Clearwater's leading hitter this spring has been firstbaseman Ryan Howard, who went 1-for-3 and scored two runs. Howard's average now stands at .368 in the early going.

There was good news and bad news on the mound for Clearwater. Keith Bucktrot (1-0) got the win, but allowed seven hits and four earned runs in five innings of work. Layne Dawson came on in relief and pretty well shut down Tampa, allowing three hits and one earned run over four innings of work for the Phils. Dawson was making his Florida State League debut after pitching at Lakewood last season.

Clearwater is now 2-3 on the season, three games behind undefeated Ft. Myers in the West Division.
