Phillies / Reds Series Preview

The Phillies, after taking two of three from the defending N.L. East Champion Braves, travel to Cincinnati to take on Adam Dunn and the Reds in a weekend series beginning tonight. The Fightin's are coming off of a 6-2 loss to Atlanta last night. Larry Bowa's squad could not get their bats going from the beginning. The heart of the Phillies order, anchored by Bobby Abreu, Jim Thome, and Pat Burrell were a combined 0-for-11 along with one Jim Thome walk.

Philadelphia Phillies (5-4) @ Cincinnati Reds (3-6)

Pat Burrell, who is off to a rather sluggish start, had a stellar game Wednesday night against Greg Maddux and the Braves. He had three hits, including a two home run performance that allowed him to finish with 5 RBI's.

Tonight, Brett Myers will be making his second start of the season for the Phillies when he goes against Paul Wilson of the Reds. Myers is coming off a loss in Pittsburgh where he pitched well, surrendering one run and scattering four hits in six solid innings. Paul Wilson, looking for his first victory of the young season, had a no decision in his last start.

Saturday at 1:15, Phills ace Kevin Millwood will take the mound for the Phillies after he was forced to leave his last start due to a strained groin. He will be opposed by Reds' struggling starter Jimmy Haynes. The hurler is 0-2 with a 12.38 ERA after he gave up five earned runs on seven hits in four innings of work in his last outing for Cincinnati.

In Sunday's finale, Randy Wolf squares off against Ryan Dempster. Aquired in a trade last year from the Marlins, Dempster is coming off one of the best performances of his young career, an early season complete game where he allowed just one run and seven hits. Randy Wolf was not so lucky in his last start going 5 2/3 innings giving up three earned runs.
