Rodriguez, Bonilla head to Futures Game

The Phillies will send two representatives to the Futures Game to be played July 8 in Kansas City. It just so happens that both are pitchers and both are members of the Reading Phillies.

Pitchers Julio Rodriguez and Lisalberto Bonilla have been selected to the World roster in the 14th Annual Futures Game as part of All-Star Sunday. The game will be played on Sunday, July 8 at 5:00 p.m. eastern.

Rodriguez is 4-1 with a 2.81 ERA in 13 starts with the Reading Phillies. Rodriguez' ERA ranks ninth among Eastern League pitching leaders. Rodriguez has also struck out 71 batters, which is good enough for fourth among strikeout leaders in the league. The right-hander also ranks fourth among lowest opponent batting average (.220) and third among pitchers for strikeouts per nine innings pitched (8.67).

In his last start, Rodriguez struck out 10 batters in a 4-2 win over the Akron Aeros, finishing within one strikeout of matching his professional high of 11. He has allowed three earned runs or less in eleven of his thirteen starts.

Bonilla joined the R-Phils squad on May 5 after he went 1-1 with a 1.35 ERA over 10 appearances as a reliever with Clearwater to start the season. Since joining Reading, Bonilla has gone 2-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 15 appearances. He also has struck out 33 batters while walking just ten.

The Dominican Republic native was named the Phillies Minor League Player of the Week for the week ending June 17 after striking out seven batters over five innings pitched in two relief appearances. Prior to this season, Bonilla spent all of 2011 with the Lakewood BlueClaws.

The game features the top Minor League prospects and will be broadcast live on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD, and MLB.TV. SiriusXM, the Official Satellite Radio Partner of Major League Baseball, will broadcast play-by-play coverage on its channel MLB Network Radio.

The Reading Phillies will play host to the Eastern League All-Star Game on July 11.
