The Philadelphia Phillies have some decisions to make on Rule 5 eligible players

The Phillies have some decisions to make about players who must be added to the 40-man roster. Some, like Roman Quinn, are easy to make, while others are going to be interesting decisions, depending on how much room the Phillies clear on the roster.

Roman Quinn is in. Cam Perkins is likely. K.C. Serna is unlikely.

The Rule 5 Draft isn't until December's Winter Meetings and the Phillies don't even have to make decisions on players until November 20th, but with the team at home watching the playoffs, time for speculation is here.

To be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft and require protection by being placed on the 40-man roster, a player must meet either of the following criteria:

  1. Must have been 18 or younger when he first signed a pro contract and this is the fifth Rule 5 Draft since he signed.
  2. Must have been 19 or older when he first signed a pro contract and this is the fourth Rule 5 Draft since he signed.
