The 2016 season marks 50 seasons for Reading as an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies and baseball in Reading. It's the longest running affiliation in baseball and to help usher in the anniversary, the team is sprucing some things up. FirstEnergy Stadium last underwent a renovation in 2011 when the team added new concessions and a new entrance to the ballpark.
This renovation will add dugout suites along the first base line, which will put fans closer to the action than any other seats in the ballpark. The new section will be located between the Reading dugout and bullpen areas, with tickets costing $25 each. The suite area is also available for groups who prefer to rent out the entire section for a game, and it also includes a pre-game cocktail party, a dedicated wait staff to bring food and drinks, and visits from players prior to the game. The suite will have two rows of seats accomodating 56 people.
In addition to the new seating area, the Fightins will feature some new uniform selections for both home and road games. New to the lineup will be a gray road uniform with "Reading" printed across the jersey in a new, feathered font style. The uniforms have a flannel look, but are made of the same material as the other uniforms.
For home uniforms, the team will wear retro-style caps for selected games. The caps feature a red brim with blue panels in the back and a white panel in the front featuring their ostrich logo. The team will also wear special 50 Seasons in Reading Jerseys for select home games. The jerseys will feature photos and memories of the 50 greatest players since the Phillies and Reading became affiliated in 1967.
There will also be new batting practice jerseys and hats, which will be worn by the team for their pre-game warm-ups. The jersey is actually a two-button pullover featuring the new "Reading" script on the front, with grey panels on the sides and white piping on the shoulders. The ensemble will be completed with a navy colored ostrich logo cap.
Finally, a new 50 Seasons in Reading logo will be featured on promotional items, apparel and other merchandise throughout the season. The logo will also be prominently displayed at the Futures Game between Reading and Philadelphia, which will be played March 3rd at FirstEnergy Stadium.
