Ben Lively hadn't struck out 10 or more batters since 2014 when he was with Bakersfield. On Sunday, he upped the ante against Trenton with a 12 strikeout performance to beat the Thunder 7-2. The win sends Reading into Tuesday's start of a three-game series at Bowie on a winning note after dropping two straight to Trenton over the weekend. The losses snapped a four-game win streak and a stretch of nine win in their last 11 games.
Leading 1-0, Reading used a five-run third inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Roman Quinn and Angelo Mora drew walks before Rhys Hoskins doubled to drive in a run and Dylan Cozens came through with an RBI single to make it 3-0. Jake Fox then unloaded with his sixth home run of the season to cap the third inning for the Fightins. Fox would later add another run on an RBI single.
Lively is now a perfect 6-0 on the season in eight starts. The seven shutout innings he threw against Trenton lowered his ERA to 1.53 on the season.
