Nick Pivetta was well in command throughout all nine innings of Friday's 4-0 Reading win as he tossed the first complete game shutout that Reading has had since David Buchanan accomplished the feat on May 28, 2012. Pivetta allowed seven hits, walked three and struck out five batters in the game to move to 7-4 on the season and lower his ERA to 3.27. The Phillies had acquired the right-hander in the trade that sent closer Jonathan Papelbon to the Washington Nationals last July 28th.
The Fightins themselves picked up just seven hits, with Pivetta collecting two of the hits and both scoring and driving in a run. All seven of Reading's hits were singles, while Pivetta allowed five singles and two doubles.
Their 11-game win streak and a stretch that has seen the Fightin' Phils win 16 of their last 17 games, has Reading at 49-19 on the season, putting them 8 1/2 games ahead of the Trenton Thunder in the Eastern League's Eastern Division. The win streak is Reading's longest since 1987 when they won 12 straight. Prior to that, the last 11-game win streak came in 1976.
