Reading Fightin' Phils

Mark Leiter moved to a perfect 4-0 on the season with the Reading Fightins, as three pitchers combine to toss shutout

Even if Reading's offense isn't up to their usual tricks, their pitching is good enough to beat you. Saturday night, Mark Leiter and two other Fightins pitchers combined on a shutout of the Harrisburg Senators.

Mark Leiter is quietly having himself a pretty good season. The 25-year old righty opened the season in the Reading bullpen, but has now made eight starts and is 4-0 with a 3.56 ERA. His latest outing saw him throw 6 2/3 innings against Harrisburg, allowing four hits, one walk and striking out five Senators batters. Joely Rodriguez threw 1 1/3 innings and Miguel Nunez was perfect in the ninth, striking out two of the three hitters he faced, to record his tenth save of the season as Reading downed Harrisburg 3-0.

Reading managed just five hits of their own against three Harrisburg pitchers, including Jonathan Papelbon, who is with Harrisburg on a rehab assignment. Papelbon threw a perfect eighth inning for the Seantors and struck out one batter.

Dylan Cozens took back the lead in Eastern League home runs from teammate Rhys Hoskins, who he had been tied with, when he launched his 23rd of the season, a sixth inning solo shot. Earlier, Jake Fox hit his 15th home run, a two-run home run, off of starter Michael Brady. Cozens finished with two runs scored on the night and two hits, and is now batting .282 with Reading.
