Reading Fightin Phils outfielder Dylan Cozens has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 27th to July 3rd, the league announced on Tuesday. It’s the fifth time this season a Fightins player has been honored by the Eastern League as Player of the Week.
Cozens batted .429 (12-for-28) with six doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI, 13 runs scored, one stolen base, four walks and a 1.571 on-base-plus-slugging percentage in seven games for the Fightins last week. The 22-year old had at least one hit in all seven games he played in and drove in multiple runs in four of those games, including a pair of games in which he homered and drove in four runs on Monday against Erie and Thursday against Harrisburg.
The Arizona native led all Eastern League players in RBI (14), runs scored (13), slugging percentage (1.071), OPS (1.571) and extra-base hits (10) last week and tied for the lead in home runs (4) and total bases (30). He also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in doubles (6-2nd), hits (12-tied 4th), on-base percentage (.500-tied 7th), batting average (.429-9th) and walks (4-tied 10th).
Cozens, who is batting .285 with 70 RBI and leads all of minor league baseball with 23 home runs in 81 games for the Fightins this season, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the 2012 draft out of Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona.
