Reading Fightin Phils first baseman Rhys Hoskins has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of June. It’s the second consecutive month that a Fightins player has received the honor, with Fightins outfielder Dylan Cozens winning the award for May.
Hoskins batted .351 (39-for-111) with nine doubles, 13 home runs, 33 RBI, 26 runs scored, one stolen base, a .415 on-base percentage and a .784 slugging percentage in 27 games during the month. The 23-year old had at least one hit in 20 of the games he played in during the month and had multiple hits in 13 of those games. He also drove in or scored at least one run in 19 of the games he played in during the month, including going 3-for-4 with a home run and a career-high six RBI in an 8-6 win at Hartford on June 14th.
Hoskins led all Eastern League players in home runs (13), RBI (33), slugging percentage (.784), OPS (1.198), extra-base hits (22) and total bases (87) during the month of June. He also ranked among the monthly leaders in runs scored (26-second), hits (39-tied for second), batting average (.351-third), on-base percentage (.415-tied for fourth) and doubles (9-tied for fifth).
Hoskins is hitting .287 (91-for-317) with a league-high 24 home runs and 75 RBI in 80 games for the Fightin Phils this season. His 24 home runs currently lead all of Minor League Baseball with Bash Brother Cozens trailing by just one home run. Hoskins’ 75 RBI rank second in organized baseball. Hoskins also won the Eastern League Player of the Week Award for the period of June 6th-June 12th and was named to the Eastern Division roster for the 2016 Eastern League All-Star Game in Akron.
