The Lakewood BlueClaws got seven shutout innings from starter Tyler Gilbert to win 2-0 in Charleston

Tyler Gilbert gave Lakewood seven shutout innings against Charleston Saturday night to help the BlueClaws to a 2-0 win. Lakewood is now 12-11 in the second half of the South Atlantic League season.

Tyler Gilbert is very quietly having a big season for the Lakewood BlueClaws. The 22-year old lefty threw seven scoreless innings and the BlueClaws topped Charleston 2-0 on Saturday night at Riley Park in Charleston, South Carolina.

Lakewood opened the scoring in the third inning on an RBI double by Damek Tomscha, and then added the game's only other run in the fourth on a safety squeeze from Zack Coppola that brought home Carlos Duran.

Gilbert (5-7) threw at least seven innings for the sixth time this year, most on the team. He pitched out of some jams early on, with the RiverDogs stranding nine runners on base over the first five innings. On the season, Gilbert has posted a 3.60 ERA and is averaging just under six innings per start for the 'Claws.

Sutter McLoughlin relieved Gilbert in the eighth and retired all six hitters he faced to earn his second save of the season .

Charleston starter Luis Cedeno (5-4) took the loss, allowing both runs over four innings.

Coppola, Josh Tobias, Tomscha, and Duran all had two hits for the BlueClaws in the win.
