Anthony Vasquez threw a complete game as the Reading Fightin Phils downed Hartford 10-4 on Sunday

Anthony Vasquez was on fire Sunday and threw a complete game for the Reading Fightin Phils as they downed the Hartford Yard Goats 10-4. Reading is now 35 games above .500 on the season.

It's been just over six years since Anthony Vasquez threw a nine-inning complete game, but he put together a good one on Sunday.

Vasquez (8-3) tossed a complete-game against the Hartford Yard Goats to guide the Fightin Phils (68-33) to a 10-4 win.  It’s Vasquez’s first nine-inning complete game since June 17, 2010 when he pitched for High Desert.

Hartford got a run off Vasquez in the top of the fourth as catcher Ashley Graeter hit an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. Jake Fox tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with two outs as he hit a home run off Carlos Hernandez (5-7).  The home run for Fox was his 17th of the season.

Reading scored five runs off Hernandez in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. Osmel Aguila hit a go-ahead RBI double and Rhys Hoskins followed with a two-run double. Hoskins now has 90 runs batted in on the season. Dylan Cozens capped off the inning with a two-run single. Hernandez left the game after only recording one out in the inning.

Hartford scored two runs off Vasquez in the top of the sixth. Noel Cuevas hit an RBI triple and Correlle Prime hit a sacrifice fly to cut Reading’s lead to 6-3. The Fightin Phils scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead to 10-3.  Fox delivered an RBI single that was followed by an RBI double from K.C. Serna. Vasquez helped his own cause by hitting a two-run single.
