The Lakewood BlueClaws picked up a much needed sweep of a double-header Tuesday night.

Lakewood used a double-header sweep over Hickory Tuesday night to vault themselves back into first place in the division. Franklyn Kilome and Jose Taveras provided the mound heroics that led to success.

Lakewood swept a double-header from Hickory on Tuesday night, winning 3-1 and 1-0, holding the Crawdads to just five hits over the two games.

The wins move Lakewood back into first place with just 19 games left in the season.

The BlueClaws won the first game of the double-header 3-1 behind Franklyn Kilome (5-8). The right-hander gave up one run over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win, but he left runners at second and third with one out in the top of the sixth. Sutter McLoughlin came in and got a strikeout and groundout to end the inning before throwing a scoreless seventh to earn his eighth save.

Lakewood got on the board in the fourth. Trailing 1-0, the BlueClaws got four straight singles to start the inning. The fourth of which was an RBI single by Wilson Garcia that tied the game. Deivi Grullon then hit a bouncer off the glove of the pitcher Emerson Martinez that scored Jose Pujols with the go-ahead run.

Mark Laird hit his first professional home run in the fifth to provide the final margin.

In game two, Jose Taveras went the distance, allowing two hits over seven scoreless innings in 1-0 win to complete the double-header sweep for the BlueClaws.

Lakewood got the game's lone run in the second inning on an RBI single by Edgar Cabral. The inning was set up by a Wilson Garcia single and walk to Carlos Duran before Jan Hernandez bunted them to second and third.

Taveras was credited with the second complete game shutout for Lakewood this year and improved to 6-8 on the season. The previous complete game shutout for Lakewood came on June 8th by Harold Arauz.
