The Lakewood BlueClaws and Lehigh Valley IronPigs both won Friday night, which sends them to the playoffs in their respective leagues

The Lakewood BlueClaws went on a ferocious late season run to qualify for the South Atlantic League playoffs, while the Lehigh Valley IronPigs nearly came up with a no-hitter in their clinching game.

AAA - Lehigh Valley 7, Rochester [Twins] 1

WP: Ben Lively (11-5), LP: Jason Wheeler (11-6), SV: none

HR: Lehigh Valley - Nick Williams (13); Rochester - none

Hitting Recap: Nick Williams hit his first home run since August 4th, snapping a streak of 87 at-bats without a home run. Williams was also hit by a pitch and scored two runs in the game... J.P. Crawford, who also struggled throughout August, had three hits and scored a run for Lehigh Valley... Five Rochester pitchers combined to strike out 12 IronPigs batters.

Pitching Recap: Three Lehigh Valley pitchers - Ben LivelyJoely Rodriguez and Elvis Araujo - combined to go 8 2/3 innings without allowing a hit to Rochester. With two outs in the ninth, Araujo walked James Beresford, who then took second on defensive indifference and scored on a base-hit from Reynaldo Rodriguez that broke up the team no-hitter and ended the shutout bid... Lively became the first minor league pitcher since Jhoulys Chacin in 2008 to win 18 games. Chacin picked up his 18 wins at the A and High-A levels, while Lively did it at the Double-A and Triple-A levels... The three pitchers struck out 13 Rochester hitters.

IronPigs Notes: Lehigh Valley will face division champion Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Division Championship. Games one and two will be at Lehigh Valley, with game three, four and five (if necessary) at Scranton. Lehigh Valley was 7-9 against the RailRiders this season... As expected, outfielder/first baseman Darin Ruf, right-hander Colton Murray and lefty Patrick Schuster were summoned to Philadelphia... Lehigh Valley broadcaster Matt Provence has never called a no-hitter for the team he was working for. He did have another close call with Lynchburg when they lost a no-hit bid in the ninth, also in a clinching game.

AA - Trenton [Yankees] 2, Reading 1

WP: Tyler Jones (6-2), LP: Jesen Therrien (1-1), SV: none

HR: Reading - none; Trenton - Dustin Fowler (12), Mike Ford (5)

Hitting Recap: Reading was held to just five hits, but three of them were doubles. Jorge AlfaroJake Fox and Harold Martinez all doubled for the Fightins... Reading hitters struck out 17 times against four Trenton pitchers.

Pitching Recap: Mark Leiter allowed five hits and one walk over six shutout innings for Reading. Leiter whiffed nine batters and Victor Arano struck out five in two innings of work, but also allowed a run... Jesen Therrien came on to pitch the ninth in a 1-1 ballgame and gave up a walk-off home run to Mike Ford, to lead off the inning.

Fightins Notes: Reading's lead in the Eastern Division is down to just 1 1/2 games over Trenton. The Fightins have to win one of the three remaining games to win the division and make Trenton the wild card... Reliever Jimmy Cordero was reassigned to Lehigh Valley to fill one of two bullpen spots that opened with promotions to the majors on Friday.

High-A - Clearwater 4, Dunedin [Blue Jays] 2

WP: Elniery Garcia (12-4), LP: Jon Harris (3-2), SV: Yacksel Rios (1)

HR: Dunedin - Max Pentecost (2); Clearwater - none

Hitting Recap: Three of the four hits by the Threshers were doubles. Carlos TocciJiandido Tromp and Drew Stankiewicz all doubled, with Tromp driving in two runs and Stankiewicz driving in one. Tocci and Tromp also scored a run for Clearwater.

Pitching Recap: Elniery Garcia struck out 11 hitters in seven innings of work, allowing just two hits and three walks that resulted in one run for Dunedin... Yacksel Rios was perfect over 1 2/3 innings to record his first save of the season.

Threshers Notes: Clearwater moved to just one game back of Dunedin in the FSL North. The two teams play again Saturday in Clearwater before playing a double-header Sunday in Dunedin that will decide who is the second half division champion... Left-handed reliever Tom Windle was reassigned to Reading.

Low-A - Lakewood 10, Greensboro [Marlins] 2

WP: Seranthony Dominguez (5-2), LP: Justin Jacome (1-5), SV: none

HR: none

Hitting Recap: Jose Pujols finished the night 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI... Damek Tomscha hit his 32nd double of the season for Lakewood, adding a run scored and an RBI to his night... Wilson Garcia and Edgar Cabral each had two hits in the win.

Pitching Recap: Seranthony Dominguez continued to pitch well, scattering four hits over six innings of work, while finding time to strike out eight hitters. The 21-year old righty has put together a streak of 21 straight scoreless innings over his last four starts. Dominguez lowered his season ERA to 2.42... Jacob Waguespack threw two shutout innings and struck out four... Dominguez, Waguespack and Ismael Cabrera combined to strike out 14 batters.

BlueClaws Notes: With the win, Lakewood clinched the second half division title and will face Hagerstown in the Division Championship Series... Lakewood hosts game one of the best-of-three series next Wednesday... The 'Claws would host games three, four and five (if necessary) in the South Atlantic League Championship should they win the Division Series... Lakewood is going to the SAL Playoffs for the first time since 2010.

Short-Season A - Williamsport 9, Batavia [Marlins] 1

HR: Williamsport - Darick Hall (9), Enmanuel Garcia (5); Batavia - none

Hitting Recap: For the second night in a row, every hitter in the Crosscutters lineup, with the exception of David Martinelli had at least one hit. Martinelli had hits in five of six games before Thursday night, hitting .269 (7-for-26) in those six games... Henri Lartigue had three hits and two walks in his five trips to the plate, and also scored two runs. One of the hits was a double... In the first two games of the series, Williamsport has 19 runs and 25 hits.

Pitching Recap: Felix Paulino allowed a run in six innings of work, giving up three hits and issuing two walks, while striking out five batters... Carlos Indriago worked three scoreless innings, giving up a hit and two walks, while adding three more strikeouts.

Crosscutters Notes: Williamsport has beaten Batavia 11 straight times, setting a franchise record for wins over an opponent in a season... The Crosscutters play in Batavia Saturday night before heading to State College for one game and then finishing the season with a game at home against State College on Labor Day afternoon... The win was the 38th of the season, securing a second straight winning season for Williamsport. It's the first time that the Crosscutters have had back-to-back winning seasons since they put together a stretch of four straight winning seasons from 2008-2011... Prior to the game, it was announced that Williamsport has renewed their radio agreement with ESPN Williamsport for the 2017 season. ESPN Williamsport started carrying the Crosscutters games in 2008.

Rookie - GCL Phillies

The Gulf Coast League Phillies are preparing for their postseason opener against the Braves on Sunday. Heavy rains pushed the game, which was originally scheduled to be played Friday, back to Sunday to give the field extra time to dry out.
