Minor League Report - April 8, 2004

The minor league season got off to its start Thursday. Overall, it wasn't a good day for the Phillies minor league clubs. Scranton, Reading and Clearwater all lost. The Lakewood BlueClaws are the only team to start their season 1-0.

Ottawa 2, Scranton 0

Jose Leon hit a two-run homerun and Dave Borkowski threw five shutout innings as the Lynx beat Scranton 2-0 in front of just over 2,500 fans in Ottawa.

Akron 3, Reading 2 (16)

Joe Inglett doubled home Victor Valencia with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 16th inning to give Akron a 3-2 season-opening win over the Phillies.

Dunedin 14, Clearwater 11

Miguel Negron went 4-7 and drove in 2 runs as the Dunedin Blue Jays spoiled Mike Schmidt's managerial debut by winning a slugfest against the Clearwater Threshers.

Lakewood 11, Kannapolis 5

Andy Jarvis knocked in four runs to lead a balanced attack in the BlueClaws season-opening 11-5 win over the Intimidators at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis. Lakewood scored runs in five different innings and got solid pitching out of the bullpen to win a season opener for the second time in three tries in Kannapolis.
