Joe Inglett doubled home Victor Valencia with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 16th inning to give Akron a 3-2 season-opening win over the Phillies.

Miguel Negron went 4-7 and drove in 2 runs as the Dunedin Blue Jays spoiled Mike Schmidt's managerial debut by winning a slugfest against the Clearwater Threshers.
Lakewood 11, Kannapolis 5
Andy Jarvis knocked in four runs to lead a balanced attack in the BlueClaws season-opening 11-5 win over the Intimidators at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis. Lakewood scored runs in five different innings and got solid pitching out of the bullpen to win a season opener for the second time in three tries in Kannapolis.
