Phils Lose Ninth Straight At Pro Player, 5-3

The Phillies trailed the Marlins by five games in last year's wild card race. The deficit was thanks in part to the Phillies losing six straight at Pro Player Stadium and struggling overall against the Marlins in head-to-head play. This season is starting no differently as the Marlins beat the Phillies 5-3 to win the first two games of their series in Miami.

Hee Seop Choi homered off Phillies starter Brett Myers and later repeated the task off Amaury Telemaco as he helped the Marlins to a 5-3 win over the Phillies.

Myers lasted just 4.2 innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits. He also left with the bases loaded, but Telemaco got Jeff Conine to ground into an inning ending fielder's choice to end the threat. Telemaco would give up Choi's second homerun of the night in the sixth though as the Marlins tied the game at 3-3.

The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the third when Brett Myers singled with one out and went to second when Jimmy Rollins walked. Placido Polanco then grounded into a fielder's choice, but Myers scored from second when Luis Castillo threw wide to first base on the play. The error was Castillo's first in 69 regular season games.

Pat Burrell continues to hit as he led off the fourth with a single and two outs later, scored on a double by David Bell. Doug Glanville, starting the game in center field, then singled home Bell and the Phillies suddenly had a 3-0 lead to enjoy.

Choi's fourth inning homerun put the Marlins on the board and Juan Pierre singled home Alex Gonzalez who had doubled to make the score 3-2 in the fifth. When Myers walked Mike Lowell to load the bases, he was lifted in favor of Telemaco.

Rheal Cormier (1-2) came on in the seventh and gave up a one out single to Castillo. The Phillies then went to Roberto Hernandez, who promptly gave up a two-run homerun to Miguel Cabrera which put Florida up 5-3.

Armando Benitez allowed just a single to Rollins in the ninth as he recorded his fourth save of the year. Darren Oliver (1-0) pitched seven innings, allowing two earned runs to get the win.
