Err-ah...Red Sox Miscues Help Phils Win

The Red Sox made four errors Saturday and the Phillies took advantage of them. Boston's errors led to five unearned runs for the Phillies and a 9-2 Phillies win. Randy Wolf returned from the DL to throw four strong innings and Ryan Madson took over from there to get the win. Jim Thome also continued his homerun barrage to help lead the Phillies.

Jim Thome capped a five-run fourth inning with a two-run homerun as the Phillies capitalized on four errors by the Red Sox to post a 9-2 victory at Fenway Park.

Thome's major league leading 26th homerun gave the Phillies a 7-1 lead and came in an inning during which Boston committed two errors.

Jason Michaels and Todd Pratt opened the inning with singles and Jimmy Rollins reached on an error after his liner deflected off Boston starter Bronson Arroyo's right shin, allowing Michaels to score for a 3-1 lead. Placido Polanco bunted the runners over and Bobby Abreu singled off the glove of Red Sox first baseman Kevin Millar, allowing both Pratt and Rollins to score. Thome then launched one into the Green Monster seats to give the Phillies a 7-1 edge.

Starting pitcher Randy Wolf made a successful return after missing more than three weeks with tendinitis of the left elbow. Activated prior to the game, Wolf allowed one run and seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk in four innings. He was pulled after throwing 77 pitches.

But Ryan Madson (5-2) didn't miss a beat and pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win. Madson allowed four hits and struck out four.

Arroyo (2-7) gave up seven runs - just two earned - and seven hits in five innings to drop his sixth straight start.

Rollins drove in two runs and Michaels collected three hits, one RBI and scored two runs for the Phillies.

Boston's Johnny Damon had made just two errors all season, but made two in the game against the Phillies. As a team, Boston had just three errors in their previous 14 games.

The series wraps up Sunday afternoon with Brett Myers (5-4, 4.42) going against Curt Schilling (9-4, 3.17).
