More Giant Homeruns Keep Phillies Faltering

Eric Milton now holds the dubious distinction of leading not just the National League, but the majors in giving up homeruns. The Giants have now hit ten homeruns in two games at Citizens Bank Park as they beat the Phillies 7-6 Saturday, sending the Phillies to their fifth loss in six games on their current homestand.

Cody Ransom, Dustan Mohr and Yorvit Torrealba all homered off of Phillies starter Eric Milton as the Giants picked up a 7-6 win over the Phillies Saturday. The Phillies sank to 4 1/2 games behind the Cubs in the wild card race.

Ransom's second inning homerun - his first of the season - gave the Giants a 2-0 lead. Mohr led off the third with a solo homerun and the Giants sprinted out to a 3-0 lead over Milton and the Phillies. The Giants then bunched three hits and a sacrifice fly to score two more runs in the inning and take a 5-0 lead. The big blow was a triple from Michael Tucker.

The Phillies did mount a comeback, getting some key two-out hits. Jimmy Rollins doubled to put runners on second and third with one out in the Phillies third. A sacrifice fly from Doug Glanville plated the Phillies first run and Chase Utley delivered an RBI single with two outs to make it a 5-2 game.

The Phillies continued the comeback in the fourth. The inning started with two simple ground ball outs, followed by a double from Marlon Byrd. Todd Pratt then walked and Milton contributed an RBI single to make it 5-3. Rollins - who had three hits in the game - delivered another two-out hit to score Pratt and suddenly, the Phillies were down by just one run.

Giants' starter Noah Lowry wouldn't make it out of the fifth inning. Placido Polanco delivered a two-run homerun off Lowry and the Phillies took their first lead of the day, leading 6-5. Unfortunately, the lead didn't last long. Grissom homered off Milton in the sixth to tie the game 6-6.

Felix Rodriguez (4-6) came in to pitch the eighth and with one out and Barry Bonds in the on deck circle waiting to pinch-hit, Torrealba hit his fourth homerun of the season as the Giants took a 7-6 lead.

New Giants' closer Dustin Hermanson came on to put away the Phillies in the ninth, giving up just a single to Glanville. Hermanson recorded his second save of the season in his new role. Jason Christensen (2-2) pitched 2/3 of an inning to get the win.

The game was missing a lot of star power. Giants' manager Felipe Alou rested starters J.T. Snow, Ray Durham, A.J. Pierzynski and Bonds. The Phillies were without Jim Thome, who bruised his shoulder in Friday night's game. Mike Lieberthal also had the day off.

The Phillies and Giants end their season series Sunday when Vicente Padilla (4-5, 3.90) makes his second start since coming off the DL and will be opposed by Brett Tomko (5-6, 5.06).
