Astros Use Triple Play To Sweep Phillies.

Jeff Kent had three hits and rookie shortstop Eric Bruntlett hit his second homerun of the season and drove in three runs as the Astros beat the Phillies 12-10 to sweep the Phillies. The loss gave the Phillies a 1-9 homestand, the worst in the history of the franchise.

The Houston Astros were once again sparked by a big inning as they completed a three-game sweep of the reeling Philadelphia Phillies.

Craig Biggio, Lance Berkman and Eric Bruntlett each homered in a seven-run seventh inning as the Astros posted a 12-10 victory over the Phillies.

Houston had a five-run inning in the series opener and a six-run inning in Wednesday's win.

Trailing 7-3, Biggio and Berkman each launched two-run homers to erase the deficit and Bruntlett capped the inning with a three-run shot.

Before the Houston bats woke up, the game turned on a defensive rarity. With the bases loaded and Philadelphia leading 7-2, Phillies catcher Todd Pratt grounded into an around-the-horn triple play.

Morgan Ensberg fielded Pratt's one-hopper and stepped on third to begin the 5-4-3 triple play. It was the ninth triple play turned by the Astros in club history and first since August 4, 1991 against Los Angeles.

Chad Qualls (1-0) picked up the win for Houston, pitching a scoreless sixth. Brad Lidge came on to pitch the ninth and picked up his 15th save.

Roberto Hernandez (2-4) took the loss for Philadelphia. He surrendered three runs and three hits while retiring just one batter in the seventh inning.
