Phils Swept In Houston; Astros Rally For 7-4 Win

Jeff Kent hit two homeruns and the Phillies' bullpen surrendered four runs over the final two innings as the Astros rallied to beat the Phillies 7-4 and sweep the season series. The sweep comes after the Phillies had started their six-game road trip on a promising note when they swept the Brewers in Milwaukee.

Jeff Kent was the latest to put a knockout punch on the Phillies. Now the question is, for how much longer will Larry Bowa hang on to the ropes?

Kent's second homerun of the game - a three-run shot in the eighth inning off reliever Tim Worrell - lifted the Houston Astros to a 7-4 victory and a second three-game sweep of the Phillies over the last nine days.

It marked the first time in their 43-year history that the Astros have swept a season series from Philadelphia.

The bullpen, which is still missing injured closer Billy Wagner, was to blame for this loss.

The Phillies took a 4-3 lead into the eighth inning, but reliever Felix Rodriguez (5-7) walked Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell around a strikeout of Carlos Beltran. Bowa then called on Tim Worrell, who promptly yielded a game-tying, RBI single to Lance Berkman. Kent followed with his 16th home run of the season, launching a 3-1 pitch over the left field wall. It was the seventh blown save of the season for Worrell. Ironically, it was Worrell who saved all three games for the Phillies last weekend in Milwaukee.

Meanwhile, Chad Qualls (2-0) and Brad Lidge, who earned his 17th save, combined for two innings of hitless relief for Houston.

The Phillies now return home for a three-game series with the Brewers at Citizens Bank Park. Vicente Padilla (4-6, 4.23) faces Victor Santos (10-8, 4.11) in the series opener Friday night.
