Phils Walk-Off 4-3 Winners on Polanco's Homerun

Placido Polanco, who may be in his final weeks as a Phillie, gave the team one more reason to think about whether or not they really want him to become a free agent. Polanco's walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth gave the Phillies a 4-3 win over Milwaukee as the Brewers lost their tenth straight. The bad news is that Randy Wolf left the game after three innings with elbow inflammation.

Placido Polanco took a pitch from reliever Mike Adams and deposited it into the left field seats to give the Phillies a 4-3 win. However, the celebration was tainted by the fact that starter Randy Wolf had to leave the game after three innings with elbow inflammation.

Wolf, who spent time on the DL earlier this season, was hit for three earned runs over three innings before he was forced to leave the game. The initial diagnosis is simply elbow inflammation and Wolf will be examined either Sunday or Monday to determine the extent of the injury.

With Wolf leaving early, the bullpen came on to shut down the Brewers over the final six innings. Geoff Geary threw two shutout innings, while Roberto Hernandez, Rheal Cormier, Felix Rodriguez and Tim Worrell each threw one shutout inning. Over the six innings, the bullpen allowed six hits, two walks and struck out four. Worrell (4-5) was the pitcher of record, getting the win when Polanco homered in the bottom of the ninth.

Lyle Overbay jumped on Wolf in the first inning, smashing his 14th homerun of the year to give Milwaukee an early 1-0 lead. Wolf walked Billy Hall to start the second inning and he scored when Chad Moeller followed with an RBI double. Moeller would later score when Scott Podsednik doubled and the Brewers suddenly had a 3-0 lead.

The Phillies comeback started in the bottom of the third. Marlon Byrd reached on an error and was at first base with two outs when Jimmy Rollins tripled to right. Jason Michaels followed with an RBI single and the Phillies narrowed the lead to 3-2. Polanco also contributed in the seventh when he singled with two outs. Mike Lieberthal followed with an RBI double and the Phillies and Brewers were tied at 3-3.

Milwaukee starter Ben Sheets lasted seven innings, giving up one earned run (three runs total) on four hits and no walks. He struck out six. Adams (2-2) took the loss.

Polanco's homerun with one out in the ninth was his 12th of the season.

The season series, which the Phillies have won all five games in, ends Sunday when Cory Lidle (7-12, 5.57) goes against Wes Obermueller (4-6, 6.32).
