Rollins' Slam Helps Phillies Finish With a Win

If nothing else, at least the Phillies can say that they finished on a hot streak. In their final series, they took three out of four against Florida and won ten of their final 13 games of the season. Sunday's 10-4 win was sparked by a strong outing by Brett Myers and by Jimmy Rollins' eighth inning grand slam.

Starter Brett Myers (11-11) threw five pretty strong innings to even his season record, beating the Florida Marlins 10-4. Myers started the sixth inning, but gave up a walk and a base hit to start the inning and was quickly replaced by Ryan Madson, who threw a perfect inning to end the Marlins' uprising.

The inning before, Myers was hit for three runs as Mike Mordecai continued to pound the Phillies, hitting his first homerun of the season for Florida's first two runs of the game. Chris Aguila launched his third homerun of the season, one out later as the Marlins cut into the Phillies early lead and made it a 5-3 game.

Perhaps the most important homerun of the day came in the third inning when Bobby Abreu hit a solo homerun, his 30th of the season. The homerun made Abreu a member of the 30/30 club - 30 homeruns and 30 stolen bases - for the second time in his career. Abreu finished with 30 homeruns and 40 stolen bases on the season. Abreu had also doubled and scored a run in the first inning. Abreu finished the year hitting .301, the sixth time in seven seasons that he has finished with an average over .300 for the Phillies.

Jimmy Rollins hit his 14th homerun of the season and made it a big one. It came in the eighth inning and was a grand slam off Matt Perisho and gave the Phillies some insurance with a 10-4 lead. The slam was the first of Rollins' career. Todd Pratt also joined the homerun barrage, hitting his third of the year, a fourth inning solo homerun off starter Ismael Valdez (14-9).

The Phillies started strong, getting three first inning runs off Valdez. The inning started with three consecutive doubles and then an RBI single from Jim Thome. Jason Michaels later added a sacrifice fly as the Phillies jumped to a 3-0 start.

Pratt and Placido Polanco both finished the day with three hits for the Phillies.

The Marlins added a run off Tim Worrell in the eighth. Luis Castillo doubled, went to third on a sacrifice fly and scored on another sacrifice fly by Miguel Cabrera.
