PBN Gameday: April 15

While the big league club was getting pounded at home, things were closer in most of the minor league games. Reading was the only club in the organization to pick up a win though as they beat Norwich 2-1. Scranton lost to Syracuse 9-4, Tampa beat Clearwater 2-1 and Lake County rallied to beat the BlueClaws 6-4.

Braves 11, Phillies 4

Walks and homeruns sunk the Phillies, as the Braves drew a total of six walks - five from starter Gavin Floyd - and hit five homeruns to beat the Phillies.

Floyd (1-1) lasted through just 3 1/3 innings, giving up eight earned runs on five hits and five walks. Aaron Fultz gave up two solo homeruns in his two innings of work as the Braves expanded their lead late in the game. Rafael Furcal and Raul Mondesi each homered twice, while Adam LaRoche added a two-run homerun off Floyd.

Pat Burrell had two hits to extend his hitting streak to ten games. Jimmy Rollins led the Phillies offense, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

Syracuse 9, Scranton 4

Both teams banged out 13 hits, but Syracuse made better use of their hits, picking up nine runs.

Mark Budzinski stayed hot for Scranton, going 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Shane Victorino had two hits and drove in two runs for the Red Barons.

Clay Condrey (1-1) gave up four homeruns and nine earned runs in five innings of work. Brian Sanches gave Scranton three shutout innings of relief work.

Reading 2, Norwich 1

Edwin Moreno (1-1) rebounded from a poor first start to throw six strong innings, giving up just one earned run ad Reading beat Norwich 2-1 Friday night.

Moreno was backed up by Felix Villegas and Ryan Cameron, who shutout Norwich over the final three innings. Cameron threw two innings and picked up his second save of the year.

Chris Roberson and Ryan Fleming each drove in a run for Reading and Roberson swiped two bases, giving him three stolen bases on the season.

Tampa 2, Clearwater 1

An error on Josh Carter ruined a strong outing by Scott Mathieson (0-1), who allowed two runs - one earned - in 6 1/3 innings of work against Tampa. Mathieson gave up five hits, didn't walk a hitter and struck out five. Francisco Butto shutout Tampa over the final 2 2/3 innings of work.

Clearwater picked up just five hits and Carlos Rodriguez drove in the only run of the night for the Threshers.

Lake County 6, Lakewood 4

The Lakewood BlueClaws couldn't hold onto their 4-3 lead as the Lake County Captains rallied in the eighth for a 6-4 win.

Jose Correa (0-1) pitched two perfect innings in relief before running into trouble in the eighth. Correa gave up three consecutive base-hits and the Captains tied the game at 4-4. Correa retired the next two batters but could not get the final out, walking center-fielder Juan Valdes to load the bases. Brian Finegan then stepped in and smacked a two out two run base hit to give the Captains a 6-4 advantage.

The BlueClaws scored in the fourth after Greg Golson led off the inning with a single, Lakewood's first hit of the game. Two batters later, Jayson Drobiak connected for a two-out RBI double to make the score 2-1.

Later in the game, Ryan Frith connected for a one out single then Kiel Fisher would bring him home on an RBI triple. Greg Golson connected for a two-out RBI triple to bring the BlueClaws even with the Captains at 3-3.

Lakewood took a 4-3 lead in the eighth on Drobiak's RBI double scoring Brad Harman from third.
