Garrett Homers In Phils' Loss To D'Rays

Shawn Garrett continued his hot hitting for the Phillies as both he and Alex Gonzalez hit homeruns in a losing cause for the Phillies on Wednesday. Tampa Bay edged the Phils 4-3 in Clearwater.

For the second time this spring, Shawn Garrett hit a ninth inning homerun, but this time, it wasn't enough to take the Phillies to a win. Garrett's ninth inning homerun brought the Phillies to within a run, but they couldn't cash in any further as Tampa Bay held on for a win.

On Sunday, Garrett hit a solo homerun to bring the Phillies within one of the Houston Astros and they then went on to tie the game and eventually win it in ten innings.

Garrett, trying to make the team as a fifth outfielder, is hitting .278 this spring and is getting a good look from the Phillies.

Alex Gonzalez hit his first homerun as a Phillie, a solo shot off Scott Kazmir (1-0) in the second inning that cut Tampa Bay's lead to 2-1.

Jon Lieber (0-1) pitched three innings, giving up two runs on six hits. Ricardo Rodriguez and Julio Santana held the Devil Rays scoreless over the next four innings, with each throwing two shutout innings of relief. Geoff Geary was hit for two ninth inning runs, allowing Tampa Bay to take a 4-1 lead.
