Player Projection: The Bench

The Phillies are focusing a lot of attention on their bench in 2006. While it's still not clear who will be where, we take a shot at figuring out who makes the club and how they'll perform.

The Phillies are continuing to search for a fifth outfielder and are considering some candidates from outside the organization. For our purposes, we won't speculate on who they might bring in from outside the organization.

We will speculate that infielder Tomas Perez isn't with the club. Perez has been rumored in various trade scenarios and with the emergence of Chris Coste, his spot on the club is in major jeopardy.

In our player projections, we suggested that David Bell would see a decrease in his playing time. The extra time will likely go to Abraham Nunez, who was signed for just such a purpose.

We've also tried to gauge various players who may see time with the big league club throughout the season. It's an imperfect science, but worth trying to figure out, since the bench can be a major part of a winning team.
