The BlueClaws offense scored first, plating six runs in the third inning. Three singles loaded the bases and Lake County starter Fred Herrmann would walk Jeremy Slayden to bring in the first run of the game. Clay Harris hit a hard single that drove in two more runs and John Urick topped off the inning with a three-run home run. Outfielder Michael Spidale had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 and is now hitting .342 on the season.
Starting pitcher, Josh Outman's 37 scoreless innings streak would come to an end in the fourth when Mike Butia hit a home run. That was the only run Outman allowed in his five innings of work. Outman struck out six while allowing six hits and collected the win, bringing his record to 14-6.
The BlueClaws travel to Salisbury, Maryland to take on the Delmarva Shorebirds and wrap up their last road trip of the regular season. Fans should not expect to see the starting pitchers going deep into the game, as they rest their arms for the playoffs. The regular position players will most likely get more days off as well to rest up. The BlueClaws return to First Energy Park Friday September 1st, when Lake County comes into town for the final four games of the regular season.
In the first round of the playoffs Lakewood will play the Lexington Legends, who were the first-half winners of the Northern Division. The first round is a best of three, with game one being played in Lakewood on September 6th. The ‘Claws will then travel to Lexington, KY for game two on September 8th and game three (if necessary) on September 9th. Should the BlueClaws win the first series, they would then face either the Augusta Greenjackets or the Rome Braves for the SAL championship. The first two games of that series would be played on the road, with the championship game being played in Lakewood. That series is scheduled to begin on September 11th.
