Cummings Throws No-Hitter For Barons

For the third time this season, a Phils' minor leaguer gave the organization a no-hitter. Jeremy Cummings shutdown the Rochester Red Wings as the Barons beat the birds 5-0.

Sooner or later, Jeremy Cummings figures to get a shot at pitching in the majors. The 29 year old right-hander has put up decent numbers throughout his minor league career and has now thrown 143 innings at the AAA level. Sunday, he threw the game of his career, allowing four hits and hitting a batter through nine innings of work against Rochester.

Cummings' gem was the third no-hitter of the season in the organization this season. On August 13, Carlos Carrasco and Andrew Barb combined to throw a no-hitter for Lakewood. Five days later, Julio De La Cruz threw a no-hitter for Clearwater on his way back from injury.

The Red Barons have wrapped up a spot in the International League post-season.

Minor Notes...

The R-Phils are out of contention in the Eastern League playoffs. Akron wrapped up the Southern Division crown and Altoona will wind up being the division wild card... The Clearwater Threshers were swept in their final series of the season. They finished the season 36-34... Matt Sweeney was promoted from Clearwater to AA Reading after the game... The BlueClaws were swept in a Sunday double-header against Lake County. They wrap up their series Monday with a single game against the Captains. They open the South Atlantic League post-season Wednesday at home against Lexington before the best-of-three series heads to Lexington for the deciding game (or games, if necessary)... Batavia hasn't played since Thursday night because of rain. They'll play a Monday double-header against State College and a single game on Tuesday. From there, they have two games at Williamsport to wrap up the season.
