The Phillies added right-hander Kyle Lohse to the roster in a deal with the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. In the trade, the Phillies sent minor league pitcher Matt Maloney to the Reds.
The Phillies looked and looked for a veteran pitcher and Kyle Lohse
was the best they could find. The 28 year old right-hander is 6-12 with a 4.58 ERA in 21 starts with the Reds this season and has a career mark of 60-74 with an ERA of 4.83 and is in his seventh Major League season.
Lohse is eligible for free agency at the end of the season, meaning that he will likely wind up being a two-month rental.
In exchange, the Phillies gave up minor leaguer Matt Maloney, who was 9-7 with a 3.94 ERA at AA Reading this season. Maloney, a 22 year old left-hander, was the Phillies third round pick in the 2005 Draft.
