Repertoire: The good news on Anderson Garcia is that he can throw a fastball with good movement in the mid to upper 90s. The down side is that he can't keep it consistently at that velocity and he is prone to letting it ride up in the strike zone on occasion. When he keeps it down in the zone, Garcia is extremely effective and would be a nice addition to a Major League bullpen, but without the consistency, he's just another pitcher. To compliment the fastball, Garcia has a slider and changeup, but again, isn't consistent with either pitch. When he throws the changeup, he either tips off the pitch by changing his delivery or keeps the same delivery, but the pitch hangs in the mid-80s and isn't enough of a variation from his fastball to truly be effective. The slider tends to stick up in the zone.
Pitching Style: When he's on, Garcia can pump up his fastball and go right after hitters. He'll occasionally try to get too fancy and throw the changeup too much and he tends to get hurt with it. Garcia gets a good amount of groundballs and needs them to succeed. He's not a high strikeout pitcher, so he depends on good defense behind him.
Projection: Like a number of other pitchers, Garcia struggled at Triple-A Ottawa last season, but that doesn't mean that he can't progress to the Major League level. He's an effective pitcher, but is still kind of rough around the edges. He's a couple months away from his 27th birthday, but he's pretty much ready to hit the majors at any time, but it's likely that he's going to be sent out to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start the season.
