Phillies Re-Sign Tadahito Iguchi

Tadahito Iguchi, who came to town after Chase Utley went down with a broken wrist late last season, is back with the Phillies after spending most of the season with San Diego.

Tadahito Iguchi was arguably one of the most important members of the 2007 Phillies stretch run when he took over at second base for Chase Utley. When Utley went down with a broken wrist, Iguchi was acquired for minor league pitcher Mike Dubee and instantly took over a key spot in the Phillies lineup. Iguchi hit .304 and served as a key bat off the bench after Utley returned from the injury.

The Phillies fended off competition from the Los Angeles Dodgers to sign Iguchi, who will likely see some time at third base and will play a role off the bench for the Phillies.

Since Iguchi signed after the August 31st deadline, he wouldn't be available to the Phillies for the post-season. The Phillies may attempt to re-sign Iguchi, who will be available for free agency following the season.
