I was just getting ready to post saying how disappointed I was in the Pirates listless performance tonight against a fairly weak team and a pitcher who came into the game with nearly a 5.00 ERA. The Pirates made Miley look like Kershaw tonight - that is hard to do.
I was going to lament how it seems we take two steps forward, followed by one step backwards.
Then, Gibson made the same mistake that Hurdle and other managers often do - he pulled a pitcher who was throwing lights out and had the Pirates completely handcuffed, just because it was the 9th inning. So, Gibson pulls him - inserts his struggling closer (sound familiar) and Reed promptly blows the game. Great comeback - we'll take it, with an assist from the Arizona manager!
