Pirates sign pitcher to minor league deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed left-handed pitcher Yao-Hsun Yang (last named pronounced "Young") to a minor league contract, which also includes an invitation to Major League spring training as a non-roster player.

Yang made nine appearances while pitching in the minor leagues in Japan during the 2013 season.

The 31-year-old native of Taiwan has posted a 5-5 record and a 3.08 ERA (90.2ip/29er) in 38 appearances (12 starts) in his career with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in the Japanese Central League during parts of six seasons (2006, 2008-2010 and 2012).

There are now 31 pitchers and six catchers in Major League camp. In addition, the Pirates have now invited 18 players to big league training camp.
