Liriano looking for another big season

Francisco Liriano was stretched out to three innings and faced 14 batters on Saturday against Tampa Bay, while working predominantly on his fastball command.

"I think I got better command on my fastball. I'm right where I want to be right now and get myself ready for opening day," Liriano said.

Liriano has been tabbed as the Pirates opening day starter and is hoping for consistency this spring.

"My change up, my slider, I think they're there. I'm not worried about that all," Liriano said.

He is hoping to not lean as much on his off speed stuff this season.

"(This season) I want to throw more of my fastball, more of my two-seamer, so I can go deeper into the game," Liriano said. "Hopefully I can get more ground balls than last year.

"I'm trying to be more consistent and stay healthy, and we'll see what happens. I've been hurt a couple times, and that's been a part of my ups and downs."
